So, that’s probably the shortest amount of time anyone’s had a LinkedIn profile.
I immediately had reservations prior to going in and was blown away by just how many “corrections” I had to make to refine the privacy settings. I have a serious trust issue when it comes to networking as it is but conducting it online blows my mind. And with that ridiculous volume of default privacy settings to change?
It took me a very long time to refine my Facebook profile down to one I was happy with and I have to maintain a constant eye on it to make sure it stays that way. I don’t think I could handle another data-gathering site right now.
I absolutely understand the value of having an online professional profile but, considering my current set of circumstances, it’s not something I want or need to do. It wouldn’t stop me recommending it to others because the network of profiles on there is vast. It can’t be easy to get funding, evolve research projects or network with non-resident research groups. LinkedIn has the database of users to enable so much of that.
A useful Thing then, but not for me.
